An 11-year-old girl is recovering after her teenage brother, 14, accidentally shot her in the head inside their Philadelphia home, according to police.
NBC 10 reports that the incident occurred on Saturday at around 4:45 p.m. at a home on the 6000 block of Charles Street in Wissinoming. The teen took his father's loaded .38 caliber revolver from his parents' unlocked bedroom and it discharged while he was examining it, police said.
The bullet traveled through the bedroom door and about 15 feet before it ricocheted off a wall in the rear of the home, striking the girl in the head. She managed to alert her parents to what happened and was taken to St. Christopher's hospital, where she underwent surgery. She remains in critical but stable condition.
Police are still investigating the incident, but no charges have yet been filed.
