Police: South Jersey boy, 4, drowns in family's swimming pool

A four-year-old boy drowned Sunday in a swimming pool at his family's South Jersey home, police said.

The Pennsville Police Department announced that a report was received around 5:15 p.m. about a possible drowning at a residence on South Broadway in Salem County.

When officers arrived at the home, they discovered the boy was unresponsive and immediately performed CPR. The boy was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

NJ.com reports that the boy was noticed to be missing when his father called his sons to dinner. The boy was found in the pool and pulled out by his father.

Police did not identify the family.

"So sorry for the loss of a young child," Pennsville police wrote in a statement.

An investigation is ongoing.
