Philadelphia police on Tuesday identified the armed suspect who was killed by officers during a chase in North Philadelphia.
Darryl Chisholm, 31, of Huntingdon County, was fatally shot Monday night on the 3100 block of North 9th Street. He allegedly possessed two guns at the time of the shooting.
Authorities said Chisholm shot a 44-year-old man around 5:50 p.m. on the 700 block of West Clearfield Street. Chisholm immediately fled the scene. The victim was rushed to Temple University Hospital where he was listed in stable condition.
Police released the results of a preliminary investigation.
At approximately 7:02 p.m., police received information that Chisholm was seen on the 3100 block of North Darien Street. Responding officers encountered Chisholm walking toward them with his hands in his pockets. When commanded to show his hands, Chisholm ran away.
During a foot chase, an officer saw that Chisholm had a gun in his hand and ignored commands to drop it. When Chisholm turned the gun toward the officers, a police sergeant opened fire. Chisholm fell to the ground and dropped the gun. However, he reached for another gun, prompting four officers to discharged their weapons.
Chisholm was struck at least three times in the torso, left thigh and right thigh. He was transported to Temple University Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 7:18 p.m.
Investigators later recovered a .357-caliber revolver and a 9mm semi-automatic pistol.
There were no other injurues reported.
All officers will be placed on administrative duty pending an investigation by internal affairs.
The District Attorney's Office will also review the case.
