Off-duty police recruit injured in motorcycle accident in North Philly

24-year-old was side-swiped by vehicle

A day after a Philadelphia police officer died in a car crash, an off-duty department recruit has been injured in a motorcycle accident, according to reports.

CBS Philly reports that the accident happened around 6:45 p.m. near 9th Street and Girard Avenue.

The 24-year-old recruit was riding a motorcycle, according to NBC Philadelphia, when a car side-swiped him, causing him to hit his leg on a light pole and suffer a large cut.

According to reports, the unidentified recruit was taken to Hahnemann Hospital and is listed in stable condition.

On Saturday, Sgt. Rafael Ali, a 10-year veteran of the force and father of two, was killed after his vehicle struck a tree in Roxborough. An investigation into that crash is still underway.
