Police: Two officers hospitalized after man punches one, bites another

Investigators seek motive for attack at police station

Two Philadelphia police officers in the 9th district were hospitalized Thursday afternoon after a suspect allegedly assaulted them outside a police district building.

According to officials, an officer standing outside the station on 400 North 20th Street was approached by a male suspect shortly before 2:30 p.m., 6 ABC reports. When the officer attempted to engage the man in conversation, the suspect told him that he was at the station for him.

Police say that the suspect then punched the officer, who called for assistance. In the ensuing scuffle, another officer was allegedly bit by the suspect, but was finally subdued with a Taser.

The two injured officers and the suspect were taken Hahnemann University Hospital for treatment.

An investigation of the incident is underway as police attempt to determine a motive for the attack.
