A Pennsauken man was taken into custody for allegedly choking a Camden police officer during a fight, county officials announced Monday.
The incident occurred Thursday near the intersection of Rosedale and Merriel avenues.
According to authorities, 25-year-old Felix Gutierrez approached a police officer on foot patrol and challenged the officer to a fight.
Gutierrez attempted to flee the scene and the officer chased him. The suspect displayed a silver object and asked if the officer would shoot him. The officer noticed that the object was a lighter and attempted to apprehend the suspect. During a scuffle, the suspect began choking the officer.
Another police officer arrived on the scene and used a Taser to subdue the suspect. The suspect was arrested and transported to Cooper University Hospital for an evaluation.
Gutierrez was charged with aggravated assault of a police officer and resisting arrest.
