The owner of an iguana found roaming the streets of Collingdale Tuesday has claimed the pet, according to Collingdale police.

Authorities say they found an iguana, pictured right, roaming the streets near the Rita's Water Ice located at 445 MacDade Blvd. on Tuesday.

Police say they received a call Wednesday morning from Glenolden Animal Hospital that the owner had contacted the hospital.

The owner, who reportedly lives in Collingdale, told the hospital that the iguana had been missing for a "few" days.

According to the Glenolden Animal Hospital, the reptile discovered is a common green iguana, a pet that needs a lot of special care and a dedicated owner.

Glenolden Animal Hospital stressed that anyone interested in owning an iguana themselves should do plenty of research first.
