Police are investigating after a man was fatally shot Tuesday morning at a Philadelphia grocery store, NBC10 reports.
The shooting occurred inside J&R Perez Grocery at 38th and Aspen streets in Mantua at 8:25 a.m.
Police told NBC10 a 22-year-old man, later identified as Maurice McDonald, was sitting inside the corner store when he was shot multiple times by a gunman who fled the scene.
McDonald was taken to Presbyterian Hospital, where he died a short time later.
Court records show McDonald had a history of run-ins with the law. However, his mother, Tiffany Phelps, told NBC10 he was "turning his life around" and recently enrolled in technical school.
Police are searching for the suspect and weapon involved.
The incident remains under investigation.
