Police: Explosive device recovered from New Jersey mailbox

An investigation is ongoing after an explosive device was found inside a New Jersey mailbox, authorities said.

The Plumsted Township Police Department announced that the discovery was made Saturday around 12:20 p.m. on Brookwood Drive in Ocean County.

Officers responded to a report of a pipe bomb in a mailbox and requested assistance from New Jersey State Police bomb squad. Investigators determined that the device had partially detonated and was deemed safe.

There were no reports of any injuries nor damage.

Police said "there is no danger to the public" as they continue to investigate.
