Former Clayton mayor identified as body found on Jersey Shore beach

New Jersey State Police have identified a body found on a beach along the Jersey Shore.

Police responded to the Sumner Avenue beach in Strathmere, Cape May County, at approximately noon Tuesday. 

The body has been identified as Jeffrey Radio, 43, a former mayor of Clayton, Gloucester County, the Press of Atlantic City reports. He was also a member of the board of education.

State police said Radio's body was spotted near the edge of the surf by people in a news helicopter flying overhead.

The cause of death was not immediately known. State police said they are awaiting the medical examiner’s determination after an autopsy.

The incident remains under investigation.
