Though the 2016 Pennsylvania Horticultural Society Philadelphia Flower Show is still months away, PHS kicked off its plans for the big event on Tuesday by announcing this year's theme.
Saturday, March 6 through Sunday, March 13, the Pennsylvania Convention Center will be filled with flourishing displays and exhibits. The theme, "Explore America," will salute the National Park Service and its centennial anniversary. The flowers and plants indigenous to its 408 parks (which range from desert landscapes to mountaintop views) will be seen throughout the show. In a true patriotic salute, the nation's many, varied landscapes will be on full display.
In lieu of the movie palace at last year's cinema-themed show, this year guests will enter the main showroom through a “Big Timber Lodge,” designed to emanate the look of NPS architecture. A "Find Your Park" pavillion will connect guests with their own NPS park rangers from around the U.S. while "Base Camp" will host an indoor playground, shopping, dining and climbing wall in the Convention Center's Grand Hall.
A Train Garden featuring miniature landscapes and model locomotives will show off the American landscape while the popular Butterfly Experience will make its return. Many more details on the show are to come in the months leading to the 2016 Flower Show. Until then, check out our gallery of the 2015 PHS Flower Show here.
