The band's 10-track record, "Abandoned Mansion," comes not even a year since it released "The Psychedelic Swamp" back in February.
The surprise drop isn't the only good bit of news to come from the six-piece rock band. Dr. Dog said on its Facebook page that all proceeds from the album downloads between now and the end of January will be going to the Southern Poverty Law Center.
The announcement falls on "Giving Tuesday," the Tuesday after Thanksgiving that's evolved into a philanthropic effort encouraging many to donate to nonprofits across the world.
Eric Slick, the band's drummer, told WXPN's blog "The Key" that the band wasn't even aware that the big drop fell on the pseudo-holiday.
“You know, we didn’t even know it was Giving Tuesday, but I guess it was meant to be,” Slick told "The Key." “We were going to try to put it out on Thanksgiving, but everyone was like, ‘Don’t do that. People are going to be full of tryptophan. They’re not going to remember that you have an album release.’ So we just chose today also, kind of jokingly, because that was the old record release day. Before Friday it was Tuesday. We just thought it’d be kind of funny, but it turns out it’s Giving Tuesday! How about that?”
