CBS3 meteorologist Kate Bilo is recovering after a trip to the emergency room Saturday night revealed she had multiple blood clots in her lungs.
Bilo, who gave birth to her third child in May, said in a Facebook post on Monday morning she started experiencing a dull pain in her ribs and side Friday night when she took deep breaths.
By Saturday, the pain had spread to her shoulder, and since Advil wasn't working, she drove herself to the emergency room.
"Thank goodness I did," Bilo wrote. A CT scan revealed the clots, also known as pulmonary embolisms. She said she had no risk factors for the clots besides her pregnancy, which was healthy and low-risk.
Bilo said she is undergoing treatment and that doctors told her she would be fine, but the pain is still there and she will have to give herself "many" injections in the coming months.
She also said her experience is a good example of why people should always "listen" to their bodies:
If you all could keep me and my family in your thoughts, I'm a believer that positive energy will help heal. And please let my experience serve as a reminder to ALWAYS listen to what your body is telling you - it would have been so easy for me to write off the pain as muscular or think "I'm too busy to go to the ER." And sometimes that's the difference between life and death.
What a beautiful day it is to be alive!
A CBS3 article about Bilo's health scare didn't reveal when she would return to the air.
