The Phillies made a roster move before beginning the second leg of their three-city trip tonight at San Francisco's AT&T Park.
Right-hander Andrew Bailey was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain. Right-hander Edubray Ramos was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to take Bailey’s place in the bullpen and on the active roster.
Bailey suffered the injury while wrapping up the sixth inning of Wednesday night’s 6-5 loss to the Twins. The move is retroactive to June 23, meaning Bailey is eligible to return on July 8.
Bailey, a native of Haddon Heights, N.J., is 3-0 with a 4.39 ERA, 28 strikeouts and nine walks in 25 appearances (26 2/3 innings). The 32-year-old, former American League Rookie of the Year had been one of the more reliable arms at the back of the Phillies ‘pen since arriving in late April until he hit a cold spell this month: Bailey has a 7.36 ERA (nine earned runs in 11 innings) in his last nine games.

Ramos, 23, is a promising relief prospect who has a fastball that regularly sits in the mid-to-upper 90s. He was 2-1 with a 1.16 ERA (five earned runs in 38 2/3 innings) in 26 games this year between Triple-A Lehigh Valley and Double-A Reading.
Since his promotion to the IronPigs, Ramos has a 0.38 ERA in 12 games and compiled 26 strikeouts while walking only three batters in 23 2/3 innings.
Ramos adds a fresh arm to a Phillies’ pen that’s worked a lot this month (only Pittsburgh’s relievers have compiled more innings in June). The Phils relief corps has a major league-worst 5.58 ERA in June.
In other Phillies relief pitcher news: rookie left-hander Daniel Stumpf is scheduled to begin a minor-league rehab assignment at Class A Clearwater tonight. Stumpf, a Rule 5 pick, tested positive for dehydrochlormethyltestosterone, a performance-enhancing substance, back in April and is still serving an 80-game suspension.
He is eligible to rejoin the Phillies on July 10.
