Desperate for any kind of help on offense, the Phillies acquired veteran journeyman Jimmy Paredes from the Toronto Blue Jays for cash considerations.
Paredes, 27, is a .257 hitter with a .667 OPS in 256 major league games in the last six seasons.

He played in a career-high 104 games with the Baltimore Orioles last year, hitting .275 with a .310 OBP and 10 home runs in 363 at-bats. He also struck out 111 times (and walked just 19 times) in those 104 games.
The Phillies are Paredes fifth different organization since November of 2013. The make room for Paredes on the 40-man roster, the Phillies transferred pitcher Charlie Morton (out for the season following hamstring surgery) to the 60-day DL.
The team designated Emmanuel Burris for assignment to make room for Paredes on the active, 25-man roster. Burris fit a similar profile to the switch-hitting Paredes as both players play the infield (mainly third base) and the outfield.
The Phillies entered Tuesday night’s game – which ended up being their fifth straight loss – with the worst offense in baseball.
