The Chinese New Year will take place on Saturday, Jan. 28. To celebrate, many places around Philly are hosting special events over the weekend. Join in the festivities by watching martial arts demonstrations, cheering on lion dancers, creating Chinese lanterns and sampling Chinese foods.

Midnight Lion Dance Performance
Ring in the Year of the Rooster with the Philadelphia Suns. The group will perform its lion dances in the streets of Chinatown.

International House Philadelphia will host its annual Lunar New Year celebration on Friday, Jan. 27.
There will be a tasting of Chinese cuisine, followed by a live show featuring Chinese music, dance and martial arts.

Lunar New Year at the Independence Seaport Museum
Independence Seaport Museum invites all to a daylong celebration. There will be arts & crafts, where kids can create Chinese lanterns, dragon puppets and rooster drums. Calligraphy classes and Chinese storytelling will entertain all ages.
At 11 a.m., noon and 1:30 p.m. there will be martial arts demonstrations. All activities are included in museum admission.
