The Daily Meal, a food website, published its "America's 50 Best Steakhouses" list last month by looking at more than 200 restaurants, filtering them through pre-existing rankings as well as suggestions from chefs across the nation. The website also excluded chain restaurants.
Philly's own Barclay Prime, a Stephen Starr restaurant found in Rittenhouse Square, was ranked No. 5 on the list of 50.
Here's what the website has to say:
Described as a "luxury boutique steakhouse" on its website, the restaurant replaces red leather with green and yellow suede, a clubby soundtrack, and slightly incongruous crystal chandeliers. While the setting is undoubtedly twenty-first-century, the menu is as classic as can be: Steaks are dry-aged for 28 days, and the rib-eye, from New York's Gachot & Gachot (which supplies the legendary Peter Luger Steak House in Brooklyn — keep reading for their ranking), is arguably the best steak in the city — and there's world-class service to boot.
Barclay Prime was the only Philadelphia restaurant to score a spot on the list, while The River Palm Terrace in Edgewater, New Jersey was ranked at No. 39.
It's not the only time The Daily Meal has given Philadelphia a shout out. Earlier this month, the website named Old City's Han Dynasty the best Chinese restaurant in Pennsylvania.
