The Homicide Unit of the Philadelphia Police Department is investigating the death of a 2-year-old boy who was found unresponsive at his home in Kensington late Tuesday night.

According to police, the victim, identified as Zyair Worrell, was recovered at the scene of the home on the 600 block of East Clementine Street. Responding officers arrived to find the boy's parents standing out front with the child in his mother's arms.

The boy was rushed to St. Christopher's Hospital and pronounced dead early Wednesday morning.

Authorities said the boy's injuries appeared to be consistent with abuse. He was "lethargic" when police arrived and was later found to have sustained a large laceration of his liver, bruising of his chest wall, a bruised right ear and an abrasion over his eye, according to the medical examiner. He also tested positive for THC, authorities said.

Investigators are treating the case as a homicide and are interviewing the boy's mother and her boyfriend.

No charges have been filed at this time.
