Jason Peters made noise at Tuesday’s mandatory mini-camp about wanting to retire as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles, which meant that he also wanted some additional financial assurance. On Wednesday, perhaps the greatest offensive tackle in team history got what he wanted.
The Eagles agreed to a one-year contract extension with Peters that will keep him in Philadelphia through the 2019 season. Here are the financial details via Adam Schefter:
"It means a lot. This is reassurance that I'm going to retire here and don't have to go year to year. It's just another way of them reassuring that I'm going to be here," Peters told the team website.
Peters was acquired by the Eagles in 2009 and since then has been a three-time first team All-Pro and seven-time Pro Bowler.
At 35-years old, you would figure that this would keep the Texas native in Philly through the end of his career. Last season, Peters played all 16 games for an Eagles offensive line that did plenty of shuffling around him.
