The famed Penrose Diner in South Philly announced on social media that, after 50 years, its overnight hours would be ending.
The diner, on Penrose Avenue near 20th Street, was one of the only remaining 24-hour service diners in the city. Its new hours will be open from 6 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week.

The decision is a result of a new generation of customers who are less likely to drive late-night and more likely to order food for delivery. According to the Associated Press, the owners said less young people are making a trip to the diner after a night of drinking, a product of Uber and delivery services like Caviar and GrubHub.
The South Philly staple posted an announcement confirming the operating hour change on Saturday. That night was its last night of 24-hour service.
"Staffing the overnight shifts has become increasingly difficult, and we are finding ourselves in a position where we can no longer provide the level of food or service at that time of night that you deserve," the Penrose Diner management posted in an announcement on Facebook. "It is our intention to now provide you with an even higher standard of service throughout our weekly shifts."
