A trooper and spokesman for multiple Pennsylvania State Police barracks is facing DUI charges after he was pulled over last month in Cumberland County, according to court records.
Trooper Robert T. Hicks, a spokesman for barracks in the counties of central Pennsylvania, was charged on Dec. 2 in connection with a November incident in Lower Allen Township.
Hicks, a resident of Mechanicsburg, was pulled over around 1:16 a.m. on Nov. 12 along the 2200 block of Gettysburg Road.
Court records show Hicks is charged with:
• DUI: Highest rate of alcohol (BAC .16+) first offense
• DUI: general impairment/incapable of driving safely first offense
Hicks has been involved in high profile cases over the past several years, including the lengthy manhunt and capture of Erin Frein, the man awaiting trial in the deadly ambush of two state troopers at the Blooming Grove barracks in September 2014.
He also spoke to the media about a bizarre case out of Penn Township in which a 26-year-old man was allegedly caught dipping marijuana into the formaldehyde of a stolen human brain hidden under the porch of a vacant trailer.
Pending the outcome of an internal investigation, Hicks remains employed by the Pennsylvania State Police. A preliminary hearing for Hicks is set for Jan. 20.
