The Pennsylvania SPCA is out of space and in dire need of people to adopt animals at its facility following an influx of dogs rescued from Monroe County. To encourage adoptions, the organization is reducing it fees for adoptions this weekend.
Friday through Sunday, between 12 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., all dogs older than a year can be adopted for $10 at the PSPCA Philadelphia shelter, at 350 East Erie Ave.
MORE: PSPCA rescues over 170 dogs from Monroe County home
Earlier this month, the PSPCA's agents rescued 170 dogs from a single home in Monroe County. The dogs — many of which are Jack Russell Terrier mixes — were transported to PSPCA sites in Philadelphia, Chester Springs and Lancaster, where they were treated for health issues before becoming available for adoption.
The Philadelphia shelter already was at capacity when the dogs were taken in.
"The vast majority (of the dogs rescued from the Monroe County home) are small, dog-friendly dogs who would benefit from living with other canine friends," said PSPCA spokesperson Gillian Kocher. "The adoption event is geared toward those who have been waiting for the right time to adopt or to add another dog to their pack. The time is now."
PSCPA adoption policies and procedures can be viewed online. The organization also is accepting donations of the pet supplies on its wish list.
