Lt. Gov. John Fetterman announced a state-wide “listening tour” Thursday. He’ll visit each of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties and listen to residents’ opinions on a hot topic: legalizing recreational marijuana.

This announcement comes just a month after Gov. Tom Wolf made a drastic shift in his position on recreational marijuana.
Before December, Wolf consistently doubted the merits of legalizing marijuana, saying he didn’t believe Pennsylvania was “ready” for legalization.
But last month Wolf tweeted he felt it was “time for Pennsylvania to take a serious and honest look at recreational marijuana.”
Now, Fetterman is hitting the road to see if the state’s residents agree:
“Starting in mid-February, I will be traveling to all 67 counties to listen to everyone’s thoughts whether they agree with this initiative or have recommendations,” Fetterman said in a release. “We want to make sure all Pennsylvanians have a say.”
Fetterman’s office will also be establishing an online form where Pennsylvania residents who can’t attend the listening events will be able to provide feedback.
A 2017 Franklin & Marshall poll found that 56 percent of registered voters in Pennsylvania would support legalizing recreational marijuana.
Also on Thursday, Philadelphia saw the opening of the first medical marijuana dispensary in Center City.
