Pennsport neighborhood brunch spot Fourth and Cross will close its doors today, Dec. 21, according to a letter posted on Facebook by its owner, Andrew Michaels.

The restaurant, Michaels told PhillyVoice in June, was designed as a "simple" farm-to-table experience for friends and neighbors, akin to a diner.

"At Fourth and Cross, my staff and I have worked hard to create that experience and in so many ways we have been successful. Many came and many enjoyed. I'm very proud of that," reads the letter. "However, due to a slew of small reasons (some obvious, some not), I will no longer be able to keep our doors open."

The restaurant, after closing for a few weeks in November, attempted to retool with a new dinner and dessert menu earlier this month, launching dinner options that ranged from smoked rainbow trout to a braised Persian lamb hind shank. The plan was to suspend brunch until spring.

Fourth and Cross will serve its final dinner this evening. Michaels added in the letter that it's seeking employment opportunities for its staff.
