If you drive the northern stretch of Ridge Avenue to get to and from work, you may want to give yourself a little extra time starting this week. No fooling.
A project to repair and repave the roadway, between 33rd Street in Philadelphia and Northwestern Avenue in Andorra, will begin Wednesday, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced today.
PennDOT’s contractor will begin milling Ridge Avenue starting at Northwestern Avenue and moving south toward 33rd Street. Motorists will face weeknight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The following week crews will begin adjusting utility manholes weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Crews will also install 226 new Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant curb ramps at 44 intersections.
The pavement improvement project is financed with state funds from Pennsylvania’s transportation plan, Act 89.
Paving operations on Ridge Avenue are expected to start in mid-April.
Ridge Avenue along with many other highways in the region suffered extensive pavement damage during the past winter season and it is one of the many state roads that PennDOT is surfacing this year.
James J. Anderson Construction Company, Inc. of Philadelphia is the general contractor on the $9.4 million resurfacing project that is financed with 100 percent state funds from Act 89. All work is expected be completed by late September.
