The University of Pennsylvania's plans for future development came into sharper focus this week after Philadelphia's Civic Design Review Board approved the proposed Patient Pavilion near the West Philadelphia campus.

Designed by Foster + Partners, Penn Medicine's proposal calls for a rounded, 13-story facility that will include 500 inpatient rooms, an ER, a campus hub for Penn Medicine and connection points with the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and the Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine.
The new building will replace the recently demolished Penn Tower at 1 Convention Ave..
The New Patient Pavilion is expected to be finished in 2021.
