Madison Holleran was a popular 19-year-old University of Pennsylvania student and track athlete with a smile as bright as her future when she jumped off a parking garage to her death near the school on Jan. 17, 2014.
Holleran, a resident of Bergen County, New Jersey, suffered from depression, which ultimately led her to take her life, her parents said.

In an effort to help others dealing with depression and other mental illnesses and to potentially save a life, her parents have released the suicide note their daughter wrote to them before jumping to her death.
It read:
The family said Holleran had been going to therapy to help her deal with her depression and suicidal thoughts. She was a perfectionist, her parents said.
After her death, her family found a draft of the suicide note in her dorm room:
'I don't know who I am anymore. trying. trying.trying,' the note began. 'I'm sorry. I love you...sorry again...sorry again...sorry again...How did this happen?'
Holleran’s family has started a Facebook page to memorialize her and advocate for suicide prevention.
