Osprey cam shows off first hatchling at Forsythe Refuge

Baby born Thursday, 39 days after eggs were laid

The first hatchling of a pair of osprey emerged from its shell Thursday, and its image was promptly broadcast online via two webcams.

One viewer described the fish-eating raptor chick as "feisty."

The osprey nest is on a raised platform on a salt marsh near the headquarters of Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge, on the coast of Galloway Township, across Reeds Bay from Atlantic City.

There's live-streaming video 24/7, provided by the Conserve Wildlife Foundation of New Jersey and Friends of Forsythe.

One camera is mounted nearby and gives an overview, but a new pinhole camera gives a hawkeye view of the nest activities from the edge of the nest.
