Oreo to give 20,250 samples of limited edition red velvet cookie

Manufacturer will make its latest snack available to general consumers just before Valentine's Day

Oreo will make its limited-edition, red velvet cookies available to consumers on Feb. 2 — but you could win samples before the delectable dessert hits the shelves.

The cookie variety, with its cream cheese filling, will be available just in time for Valentine's Day, but the company announced that 20,250 lucky fans will get to taste the cookie first. Folks can sign up online for a chance to win cookies for free. The offer ends Thursday at 11:59 p.m.

In case you're interested in consumer reviews, USA Today's editorial staff has already munched on the cookies. While some enjoy them, others say they're "crazy sweet."

Meanwhile, some celebrities are very excited to get a taste.
