It's been two weeks since LeSean McCoy's alleged involvement in an Old City nightclub brawl that left two off-duty police officers injured.
Prosecutors continue to weigh the evidence as they decide if charges against the former Philadelphia Eagles running back are warranted.
Meanwhile, the president of the local Fraternal Order of Police late last week criticized the Philadelphia district attorney for the lack of prosecutorial action against McCoy, 27, and said a private criminal case is possible.
For his part, the district attorney said again Monday morning on the WIP Morning Show that he will not rush to judgment in the case, and that no decision on charges is imminent.
Shedding some more light on the incident on Sunday was Ralph Cipriano of bigtrial.net, who wrote a nearly 1,900-word story that focused mainly on the McCoy party's version of events.
Citing anonymous sources, the bigtrial.net story reported that:
• Before the Feb. 7 melee at Recess Lounge on the 100 block of S. Second Street, two of the three off-duty cops, Officer Roland Butler and Sgt. Daniel Ayers, were spotted earlier that night partying at the Reserve Lounge, another nightclub in Old City. Two witnesses told investigators that both men appeared to be intoxicated.
• Four bottles of Moet & Chandon Rose Champagne ordered by the cops at Recess Lounge cost $350 each. "The district attorney may wonder how three Philly cops who earn an average salary of some $70,000 a year can afford a $1,400 bar tab," Cipriano wrote. The altercation apparently started when one of the cops took a bottle of the Champagne off the McCoy party's table.
• Ayers allegedly reached for a gun, a black 9 mm pistol, in the aftermath of the fight. A witness reportedly told McCoy that Ayers was a police officer and pulled McCoy away. The police commissioner has directed that off-duty officers not carry guns inside bars, bigtrial.com notes.
One officer was "punched, kicked and stomped" about the head and body several times by four suspects, police said. He took himself to Delaware County Memorial Hospital in Upper Darby, where he was treated for a laceration to his right eye, a broken nose, broken ribs and a sprained thumb, police said.
The second officer was admitted to the hospital, where he received eight stitches over his left eye and is being treated for a possible skull fracture, police said.
McCoy is represented by high-profile criminal defense lawyer Dennis Cogan.
McCoy played for the Buffalo Bills this past season after six years with the Philadelphia Eagles, who drafted him in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft.
