Nick Cousins accepts qualifying offer

The Flyers are bringing back some forward depth for another year, as the team announced on Thursday that has accepted his qualifying offer. Working with a one-year contract worth $937,125, the 22-year-old will again be a restricted free agent next summer when his deal is up.

Thanks to Cap Friendly, here is the minimum requirement for Cousins’ qualifying offer: 105% of the base salary if the base salary is greater than $660,000 or less than $1,000,000. However, this qualifying offer cannot exceed $1,000,000. Since Cousins made $892,500 in 2015-16, some simple math gets us to the $937,125 figure.

After a brief four-game stint in early December, Cousins muscled his way back into the lineup on February 6th and never looked back. He remained on the ice in Orange and Black through the team’s playoff run, contributing 10 points (6 goals, 4 assists) in 42 games.

Before he was called back up, Cousins led Lehigh Valley in scoring with 38 points (12 goals, 26 assists) in 38 games. Turns out that it’s a little easier to produce in the AHL, after all.

Cousins is on a two-way deal, but he will have a chance to compete for a spot again in training camp. According to General Fanager, the Flyers have a projected $6,416,209 of cap space with restricted free agents and as the only roster players left unsigned.
