NFL Thanksgiving Day open thread

As you enjoy your turkey, stuffing, and mashed potatoes (be sure to check out PhillyVoice's definitive Thanksgiving side dish rankings here), note that there are three Thanksgiving Day NFL games that are of interest to the Philadelphia Eagles.

• The 12:30 game is the Minnesota Vikings at the Detroit Lions. The Eagles' would benefit two-fold from a Lions win:

  1. The 8-2 Vikings would fall a game off the Eagles' pace in the NFC, thus increasing the Eagles' odds for the No. 1 in the NFC playoffs.
  2. The Lions are 6-4, but really not that good, so if they were to make the playoffs, they would take up a spot over a more talented team.

• In the 4:30 game, the Dallas Cowboys will host the San Diego Chargers. The Cowboys' chances for the NFC East are all but eroded away at this point, and they are no longer a threat to the Eagles, but, you know, rooting against Dallas on Thanksgiving is a yearly tradition.

• And finally, in the 8:30 game, the Washington Redskins will host the New York Giants. The NFL surely didn't think these two teams would have a combined 6-14 record heading into this matchup, but here we are. The Giants will almost certainly be in the hunt for a new franchise quarterback this upcoming offseason, and the Redskins may be as well depending on the fate of Kirk Cousins. Realistically out of playoff contention, both teams' long-term interests are better served by losing this game.
