This month, the board of Philly Beer Week announced the formation of the nonprofit Philly Loves Beer, Brew Studs reports.
What this means is that Philadelphia just became the first place in the country to host a nonprofit specifically dedicated to beer appreciation and the development of craft beer tourism.
A member-based network born out of demand, PLB will offer educational seminars, networking events, fundraisers, beer festivals, promotional support for their participants, and continue to expand beer’s imprint in Philadelphia.
Once up and running, the PLB website will provide an online home for local beer enthusiasts, regularly publishing beer news, features, events listings, and interviews with local brewers.
The leadership team at PLB is a plugged-in mix of tavern and bar owners, local brewpubs and breweries, restaurants, hotel operators, wholesalers and distributors, and associated professionals in the real estate, law and marketing industries.
Already, the group has planned several major events for 2017:
• Belgium Brew Day: On January 18, PLB will officially create Philly Beer Week's 10th-anniversary brew in Belgium.
• Flan-Animal: On February 19, PLB will hold its inaugural fundraiser, a flannel fashion show at Heritage in Northern Liberties. The event will be judged by a panel of local female beer celebrities.
• Beer Madness: On March 13, coinciding with college basketball's March Madness, PLB will unveil its annual Beer Madness Bracket, a competition to determine the best of 32 local brews.
• Opening Tap: On June 1, PLB's biggest event will hit the Fillmore Philadelphia for a summer party and parade with stops at local bars and breweries. This will kick off the 10th anniversary of Philly Beer Week, a 10-day celebration of the city's beer scene.
Those interested in learning more about Philly Loves Beer are encouraged to keep an eye on the organization's social media channels for details on upcoming events and developments.
