Officials in New Jersey have issued a warning to residents after an individual infected with the highly contagious measles virus may have exposed others at a funeral home on two occasions earlier in May.
On the afternoons of May 11 and May 14, health officials say the sick individual may have exposed people at Flynn and Son Funeral Home in Middlesex County, NBC 10 reports
Symptoms of the virus may not develop until as late as June 4, so officials urge anyone who may have been at the funeral home on those days to contact a health care provider to discuss the potential risks of exposure to the virus.
Symptoms of measles include a generalized rash and high fever with a cough, runny nose, and red eyes persisting for five to six days. When an infected individual talks, coughs, or sneezes, the virus can easily spread through the air and infect those who have not been vaccinated or have not previously had measles.
