A New Jersey man was stabbed in the stomach Saturday after intervening in a fight between his son and three other teenage boys, authorities said.
John Trotter, 40, of Mantua, witnessed the fight break out at a home on the 100 block of Bridgton Pike and attempted to stop the violence when one of the boys lunged at him with a knife, according to Gloucester County prosecutors.
Trotter was hospitalized in critical but stable condition with non-life threatening injuries, 6 ABC reports.
The three boys involved in the fight with Trotter's son, two 15-year-olds and a 16-year-old, fled the scene on foot but were all captured by police not long afterward.
The cause of the fight remains unclear, but authorities believe it was the 16-year-old boy who stabbed Trotter.
All three juveniles have been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and weapons offenses.
