Authorities seized nearly 20 pounds of cocaine from a flight arriving from Jamaica at Philadelphia International Airport Saturday.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials say officers conducted a cabin sweep of a flight that arrived from Montego Bay around 6 p.m., discovering two drawstring bags hidden inside an access panel.
Inside those bags were four brick-shaped objects that contained about 19 pounds and 9 ounces of cocaine, which amounts to a street value of $600,000, authorities say.
"We are pleased that these dangerous drugs will not reach our city’s streets,” said Susan Stranieri, CBP Port Director for the Area Port of Philadelphia in a news release.
A similar haul was seized in June when an Italian man was arrested for attempting to smuggle 14 pounds of the drug into PHL from a flight out of the Dominican Republic.
No arrests have been made from Saturday's incident and CBP officers are still investigating.
