The Pocono 400 is coming to Philly.
On Tuesday, seven NASCAR race cars will cruise down Market Street from noon to 2 p.m. to promote the annual race on June 11 at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond.
The event will result in the closure of Spring Garden Street, between Pennsylvania Avenue and Eakins Oval, from about 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for off-loading and staging of the vehicles, police said.
As part of the Pocono Raceway/Xfinity Philly Takeover, the race cars will proceed south on 17th Street to Market Street, east on Market to City Hall, and around the south side of City Hall to Juniper Street. At South Penn Square, a ceremony and demonstration will take place with city representatives. Three vehicles will then head to the 1300 block of Market Street for photos. The cars will then depart City Hall and travel north on Juniper to JFK Boulevard and west on JFK Boulevard to Broad Street, where there will be another brief demonstration. The contingent will then continue west on JFK Boulevard, stopping along the north curb lane in front of the Comcast Center for more photos.
Police will be assigned to the detours around the route to assist motorists. Motorists should expect delays.
