Beer nerds and a science geeks have an opportunity to combine their passions.
Beginning last week, the public is invited to vote on the name for this year's special-edition, "scientifically inspired concoction" for the 2017 Philadelphia Science Festival, a collaboration between the event's organizers and Yards Brewing Co.
This is the seventh year the Philadelphia Science Festival and Yards have worked together on a beer, but it is the first time the public is helping choose the name.
This year's beer will be a tripel, but other details of the recipe have not been released. The four choices for the 2017 beer's name are: Atmosbeeric Pressure, Brewbik's Cube, Tripel Bypass, and A Tripel in Time.
Names of previous brews have included Pythagorean Beerem, Cerebral Pourtex, Parallel Brewniverse and 2016's Orang'n of Species, a nod to evolutionary biologist Charles Darwin's groundbreaking book "On the Orgin of Species," Last year's beer was a blood-orange witbier described by Philly Beer Scene as clean, slightly tart with a touch of clove.
The nine-day Philadelphia Science Festival was created by the city's science, cultural and educational institutions and organized by the Franklin Institute. This year's event takes place between April 21-29. More information is available philasciencefestival.org.
Voting on the 2017 beers name remains open until Friday at noon.
