Marcus, Markieff Morris charged with felony aggravated assault of man accused of sexting their mom

North Philadelphia twins signed combined $52-million deal with Phoenix Suns before 2014-15 regular season

The Morris twins are two pretty successful dudes. The North Philly products won a couple of state titles at Prep Charter before heading to Kansas and enjoying very solid three-year careers under coach Bill Self. They parlayed their strong college play into becoming the 13th and 14th picks in the 2011 NBA Draft, respectively. Reunited in Phoenix, they signed a unique contract extension which will see them make a combined $52 million over four years.

But now they're in some hot water.

ESPN's Ramona Shelburne has the info: Police have been looking into the January assault of a man who the Morris twins have known for a long time at a Phoenix rec center. Now, they've been charged with felony aggravated assault along with three other men. Here are the important details:

After the game, police say Hood was confronted by Kane and struck from behind on the head by Melendez. Hood tried to run to his car but had been dazed by the initial blow to the head and fell to the ground, where he was then repeatedly punched and kicked by all five suspects. The assault was witnessed by a 27-year-old woman, who attended the game with Hood.

Hood was taken to the emergency room at Phoenix Baptist Hospital where he was treated for a broken nose, bruises and abrasions.

Hood told detectives that he has known the Morris brothers since they were in high school and that he mentored the brothers through college. The Morris twins denied to police that they were involved in the assault and that knew Hood.

Police say that that Hood was assaulted for sending "an inappropriate text message" to the Morris brothers' mother some time before the incident.

Well, it seems as if the last part gives us some context. We'll have to see how the situation plays out.
