Dozens of protesters were issued citations during the first day of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, the police announced Monday.
During the day, thousands of people participated in numerous demonstrations throughout the city, police said.
However, only one protest became unruly enough to force authorities to issue citations.
Around 5:30 p.m., a group of protesters assembled near the intersection of Broad Street and Pattison Avenue in South Philly. Some started to climb a fence to gain access to a restricted area, ignoring officers' demands to stop.
The group's actions forced SEPTA to suspend service to the DNC on the Broad Street Line.
In all, 54 people were detained by police and issued $50 fines for disorderly conduct.
After receiving citations, the individuals were released.
