A 68-year-old Lower Merion man has died after falling 45 feet down a garbage pit, police said Saturday.
The incident happened minutes before 1 p.m. at Koegel Public Works Complex in Lower Merion Township. The resident, whose name isn't being released but was from the 100 block of Maple Avenue in Bala Cynwyd, was unloading trash from a U-Haul truck, the Lower Merion Police Department said.
The man was rescued by medics who responded from across Montgomery County but died around 2:30 p.m. at the Lankenau Hospital Trauma Center.

The township's fall clean-up event was canceled Saturday after the incident but will resume Sunday at 8 a.m.
