Officials in Montgomery County have announced the arrest of a suspect five years to the day after 17-year-old D'Ravious "Ray" Dawkins was fatally shot in Norristown.
According to the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office, 23-year-old Omar Terrell Massenburg has been charged with murder and related offenses in the shooting that occurred on March 18, 2011 at the intersection of Noble and West Oak streets.
Prosecutors say the arrest came after an extensive investigation that relied on seven cooperating witnesses, eyewitnesses and cell phone analysis, among other investigative methods.
“We never let this case go cold. There was work being done on this murder throughout these five years,” said Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele. “A lot of investigative efforts have gone into this case to get us to the point now where we are able to make an arrest and do justice for Ray Dawkins and his family.”
Massenburg was arraigned on Wednesday by District Judge Francis Lawrence. He was denied bail and remains held at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility. A preliminary hearing is set to take place on March 28.
