Moby's 'Porcelain: A Memoir,' tells the strange story of the electronic musician's life from 1989 through 1999. Born Richard Melville Hall, he became Moby as a nod to allegedly being the great-great-great nephew of 'Moby-Dick' author Herman Melville.
The event will kick-off at 7 p.m. on May 19 at the Parkway Central Library and is free to attend. During, Moby will read from his book, join in moderated discussion, answer questions and end the program with a book signing.
The memoir has received mainly praise, with author Dave Eggers delivering one of the quirkiest approvals. "This is one of the funniest and most accessible books you’ll ever read about an erstwhile Christian/alcoholic vegan electronic music maker," he stated.
Moby created 11 studio albums, including 'Ambient,' 'Hotel,' '18' and 'Play.' He is considered by many to be a pioneer of early 1990s electronic dance music in New York City.
An introduction to 'Porcelain: A Memoir' can be read on Moby's website.
