A search for a missing New Jersey senior citizen with dementia ended happily on Wednesday morning thanks to an observant teen who connected a missing person photo he saw on Facebook with the woman he spotted in the window of an abandoned house.
The ordeal, reported by The Press of Atlantic City, began at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday when the woman, 84-year-old Antonia Vocino, of Galloway Township, Atlantic County, became disoriented while walking her dog, which led her to wander into a vacant house near her home and accidentally lock herself in a room on its second floor.
Galloway Township police sent out information on Facebook seeking the public's help finding her.
Eighteen-year-old Leo Capone, also of Galloway, was walking shortly before 11 a.m. Wednesday when he noticed a woman calling for help from the second-floor window of a vacant home in the neighborhood and, connecting the dots, realized it might be Vocino, The Press reports.
With the help of others, he entered the home and broke down the door to free Vocino and her dog, who are both reported safe, then called police, who confirmed his hunch.
