Blue Cross RiverRink's Summerfest officially opened for the season over Memorial Day weekend, but the Delaware River Waterfront Corp. still has a few finishing touches to add to the outdoor space this summer.
Boardwalk-style rides will be a new feature, starting Friday, June 23.
A section dubbed "The Midway," operated by Skelly's Amusements, will have a 60-foot Ferris wheel, a carousel, a Pharaoh's Fury swinging boat ride and a Typhoon Magic Carpet ride. Most will be $4 to ride.
Not all of the new rides will be at the space through the summer, however.
The Ferris wheel will be there from June 23 through July 9 and again from July 24 through Aug. 14. The swinging boat ride will be there from July 10 through July 23, and the Magic Carpet ride will take over Aug. 15 through the end of the season.
The carousel will become a permanent attraction.
Adding to the boardwalk vibe, there will be a collection of games in The Midway. Play Water Race, basketball, Balloon Bust, High Striker/Ring the Bell, Cork Gun and Break a Plate to win prizes.
Blue Cross RiverRink's Summerfest also includes a roller skating rink, beach-like landscape, lounge chairs, outdoor bowling, mini golf, a Chickie's & Pete's Waterfront Crabshack, Quizzo on Wednesdays (with PhillyVoice's own Brian Hickey), a Franklin Fountain stand and bars serving beer and cocktails.
Below are Summerfest's hours of operation:
• Mondays through Thursdays: 1-10:30 p.m.
• Fridays: 1 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
• Saturdays: 11 a.m. to 12:30 a.m.
• Sundays: 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
