Six students at a middle school in Allentown were issued citations Wednesday for underage drinking, The Morning Call reports.

Police responded around 10 a.m. after receiving reports from school officials that six girls appeared to be drinking.

Police said arriving officers smelled alcohol on the girls and gave them a portable breath test. It was determined that they had a small amount of alcohol in their systems, Capt. Bill Reinik told The Morning Call.

He said police found a bottle of vodka with the girls, but it was unclear where the drinking began. None of the girls acted belligerent or required medical assistance.

The girls were each issued a summary citation for underage drinking and were released to their parents. According to Reinik, five of the girls were 11 years old and the other was 12.

The incident follows several violent incidents recently in the area. A Dieruff High School student allegedly pushed a teacher down bleachers during a pep rally Nov. 6, just a day after student fights broke out at Trexler Middle School. On Oct. 29, police said four officers were injured in a brawl near Allen High School.
