The father of former NFL quarterback Michael Vick is one of 12 people who allegedly participated in a "large-scale" heroin distribution operation for more than three years, federal officials announced Wednesday.
Michael Boddie, 55 of Hampton, Virginia, is facing charges related to heroin distribution and money laundering in the alleged crimes that spanned from 2014-17, according to the federal indictment. The group allegedly "conspired to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 1,000 grams or more of heroin."
The federal indictment further charges Boddie, whose nickname is listed as "Vick," with using a telephone in connection with the operation in August 2016.
Seven of the 12 charged made court appearances though Boddie has not yet been taken into custody, according to The Washington Post.
Vick, 36, recently retired from the NFL after 13 seasons, five of which were spent with the Philadelphia Eagles.
It's not clear what kind of relationship Vick, who spent almost two years in prison for participation in a dogfighting operation, has with his father.
Boddie told the Post in 2007 that the two weren't on speaking terms as he faced the federal dogfighting charges.
