Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney has issued a ban on business-related travel by city employees to Mississippi and North Carolina in response to what he sees as discriminatory laws that limit protections for the LGBT community.

The decision, announced Wednesday and reported by CBSPhilly, is effective immediately and affects publicly funded travel to the two states, unless the travel was pre-approved by the city department managing director as essential to public health and safety.
Kenney said in a statement the states' laws “infringe the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals.”
CBSPhilly reports the mayor said he will revisit the decision if the two states choose to repeal the legislation.
