When Kendall Marshall went to practice with the Delaware 87ers today, it wasn’t unfamiliar territory.
“I walked in there and was like, ‘I’ve seen this place before,’” Marshall said. “It brought back some memories.”
After playing with the Sevens during the 2013-14 season, Marshall returned to the first state as an NBA player. Along with Tony Wroten, the Sixers’ other injured point guard, Marshall is rehabbing from an ACL injury suffered last season. As the big club has already started the gauntlet that is the NBA season and accumulated a plethora of injuries, they are unable to practice fully.
So the Sixers felt that their D-League affiliate, still preparing for its own season, was a better option for the rehab of their injured point guards. Today, they both practiced with the Sevens and were back with the Sixers by noon. Marshall and Wroten were both on the floor working out before Wednesday’s game against the Toronto Raptors.
“It feels great, you just got to put all the pieces together and get back,” Wroten said. “Obviously, I haven’t played in a game in eight or nine months so I’m just trying to do little things like going down there and scrimmaging with them, just so I’m not going out there cold turkey [upon his return].”
Marshall echoed the same sentiments: He’s healthy, but not ready for games quite yet.
“I see it in my very near future,” Marshall said of his return. “I wouldn’t say I’d put on a uniform tonight, but there’s a lot that goes on. Do I feel 100 percent healthy? Yes, but it’s a different level between being healthy and ready for an NBA basketball game.”
