Details, like which venue it will be and what she'll be performing, are mum -- for now, anyway. But the word is that Carey may be on the stage by the end of the year, and that -- contrary to what swirling blog rumors had been suggesting -- she won't be surpassing that $30 million figure Britney Spears is reportedly making through her two-year contract with Planet Hollywood.
Interestingly, the International Business Times reported through an anonymous source that Carey had been hesitant about packing up for Vegas and initially "put out feelers" at the Borgata in Atlantic City for a mini-run. (Think about that for a second.)
Britney Spears, meanwhile, announced in October that she'll be extending her residency through 2017. According to Forbes, she's raked in $20 million for Planet Hollywood since launching her Vegas show in Fall 2013 (if you can believe it's already been that long). Carey will join the likes of Elton John and Rod Stewart in the Vegas 2015 lineup.
Carey's likely filling the diva-void left by Celine Dion, who, according to the Las Vegas Sun, indefinitely suspended her Vegas residency after news broke that her husband's cancer had resurfaced.
And the lingering question (an awkward one, at that) is whether anyone is actually willing to pay a premium to see a struggling-of-late Carey, who had a shaky "All I Want for Christmas Is You" performance in December and a string of even shakier performances during her Asia tour last fall.
Either way, keep your eyes peeled for ticket information in the coming weeks.
